SEM is the short form for Search Engine Marketing.

Under SEM usually is differentiated between SEA and SEO (Search Engine Advertisement and Search Engine Optimization).

The aim of SEM is to attract more visitors as well more revenue which results from more traffic. In addition many webmaster use Search Engine Optimization to reduce advertising costs.

Advertising networks as well search engine providers offer often click or view based advertisement possibilities which can cause high costs. Therefore many small business owners take care of right SEM mix.

Imagine it would require for a product or a service in an online shop an average of 2000 clicks on an advertising form  on a third party site a 8 cent per click. The average costs per new client would be 160 Dollar.
This is way too much for most products and services.

Therefore several Small and Medium Enterprises use the service of SEM-Agencies as alternative for instance while expanding in relevant web registries and communities to reach the same amount of traffic that a normal campaign would bring. Such would lower the total marketing costs due to lower advertising costs.

The prices of SEM for a website depend on size, target group, key words, product, service and aim of a website.

While it is possible to purchase already small SEM packages online in internet trade platform or within some webforums, it is my personal experience that small business owners should calculate with a monthly budget of at least 300 Dollar.

General rule for SEM activities is continuity.
